Tain is on the A9, 35 miles north of Inverness. |
| This is a demanding sand track where the lines are constantly changing as it becomes whooped and rutted. |

With the sun shining and a well prepared sand track the new look championship kicked off in explosive style with Stevie Mackenzie bursting out of the start to take the first of the £50 hole shot prize money by the narrowest of margins however before the end of lap one Brian McKenzie had hit the front with Richard McKeown, Tony Craig and Peter Mitchell in tow.
Brian made a mistake which allowed Tony Craig the only chance for anyone else to lead for the rest of the race.
Second place was secured by a super smooth Richard McKeown on lap four and he was never passed after that with Craig Trew taking an equally secure third.
By race two the sand track was heavily rutted and the level of fitness and technical ability required far greater and still Brian MacKenzie took the win from a determined Ross Rutherford, who had crashed out of the first race and Ricky Mair in third.
By the last race the line up was minus Richard McKeown and Jamie Duncan through injury but a very hard , fast and furious race saw Brian making it a hat trick of wins with Ricky Mair chasing strongly for the entire race and crossing the line in second with Neil Flockhart having his best race of the day to take third .
The level of ability on the day was evident from the hard fought races that were taking place through the entire championship field.
The introduction of a Hospitality trailer was appreciated to the full by all the championship sponsors present on the day.
If the remaining five rounds produce this standard of Motocross and the same number of spectators then The SACU Scottish Motocross Championship has been lifted to a new level. |
