Latest News:

Two days of hard racing saw the 2008 Safe Access Scottish MX1 SACU Championship come to an end over the weekend, at the sandy Leuchars circuit near St. Andrews on the East Coast of Scotland. It was Neil Flockhart on the Willsweep / Drysdales KTM 450 who came away with his second Title Victory after a closely faught Championship battle all year.

Suffering a DNF at the first round of the series way back in March, Neil re-focused himself at the following rounds and steadily rose up through the points table with consistant finishes through the middle of the season. Coming into the weekend's final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday holding a 32 point lead over second placed Bobby Gold, his focus was all about the Championship.

Increasing his points lead over the Saturday's three motos, 25 year old Neil from Longniddry, East Lothian, was delighted to wrap up the Championship Chase in the second Moto on Sunday with a cool calculated ride despite the very rough track conditions.

Neil's 2006 and 2008 victories, sandwich brother Stuart's 2007 win, making them the only brothers to recieve the Donald Sinclair Memorial Trophy since it's creation in 1955.

"It was a tough series this year there were a lot of fast riders taking part, so I am really pumped to come away with the win. The KTM 450 has been awesome all year, it never let me down, and I'm really happy I stayed positive after the disappointing result at the first round. A big thanks to Steven and Andrew Williams at Willsweep and Tim Sleigh my mechanic. You guys have been awesome over the past few years I couldn't do it without your help and my sponsors Drysdale KTM, Shift, YPE-Power, BUD Suspension, Doma Exhausts, and Extreme Nutrition.

2008 Safe Access/ SACU Scottish Adult Motocross Championships Final Two Rounds Commerton Farm, Leuchars

MEET the new boss, same as the old boss,’ wrote ‘The Who’s rock legend Pete Townsend in the song ‘Won’t get fooled again’ and the new 2008 Scottish Motocross Champion was the 2006 champion Neil Flockhart, who took over from 2007 champion, his brother Stuart.
After a season long battle with Englishman Graham Riley, Neil played it safe during last weekend’s double-header to reclaim the coveted crown for north of the border from Riley in runner-up spot and the unlucky Bryan MacKenzie in third place overall.

Due to the cancellation of the scripted last double-header round at Duns last month, the Glenrothes club came up with the British Youth championship track at Commerton Farm at Leuchars, near St Andrews to run two rounds over two days, backed by Safe Access.
Saturday saw sunshine, Sunday saw high winds and close battles to end the season on a high.

SATURDAY
Northumbrian James Hutchison stole the limelight on day one by taking the Championship class overall honours with a second race win splitting an opening fourth place and last race third spot with returning from injury Ross Rutherford and Flockhart in runner-up and third places respectively.
Graeme Colligan snatched the B class overall win.
The Youth 125cc class had the all conquering Billy Penman on form to take the overall win Saturday as he was the only rider in his class.
David Houston didn’t have a problem, and was all conquering in his Youth MX2 class with three wins from three starts.
Mattie Fleming is all-conquering in Scotland in the Big-wheel 85cc class and three wins saw him top of the class.
Another maximum points haul over the weekend was taken by Frazer Pohlen in the Small-wheel 85cc class.

The very competitive Junior 65cc class saw overall winner Conor Curran miss out on a maximum points score after two wins, having to
give second best in the last race to overall runner-up Ben Edwards. The Auto class had their own track and Aaron McDonald swept to three race wins for the overall honours.

Sunday

The final day saw dark clouds and high winds roll in, but the track was still in cracking condition, hard work, but great to watch riders battle on.
Bryan MacKenzie was on form again taking the three holeshots and the £50 prize for each and the overall win on the day, however, it was Neil Flockhart’s day and season as he claimed the championship crown after a safe and sensible ride to sixth place in race two.
Hutchison again showed his class with the last race win helping him to the overall runner-up spot on the day with Ross Rutherford completing a happy come-back in third spot.
Dale McAulay took the Sunday overall B Class honours.
Aiden Bruce stepped up to Youth 125cc class duty to give Billy Penman a run for his money and snatched the wins.
Over in the Youth MX2 class Houston continued with his winning ways with maximum points.
No one can touch Mattie Fleming in the Big-wheel 85cc class north of the border and another three wins went on the stylish man’s CV on Sunday.
Frazer Pohlen, Jay Lamb and Ian Stewart topped the Small-wheel 85cc class’ podium in that order with Oscar Cochrane taking the top step in the Junior 65cc class after three fine wins from Rusty Peebles and Scott McLean.
Aaron McDonald again did the business in the Auto class with three healthy wins ahead of Jordan Gill and Lewis Dow.

For the 2008 series, Rab Duncan the SACU Motocross Chairman decided to get together like minded enthusiasts, to promote the adult championship in Scotland. The aim of the committee is to provide consistency across all 6 rounds of the Championship, promoting fairness and equality in each round as it will be organized and run by the same people at the different tracks. We hope this year to raise the profile Scottish Championship by offering bigger and better prize money. We have managed to secure sponsorship from several prestigious companies.
