SACU - Scottish Autocycle Union - Adult Motocross Championship 2008

Round 4.  Rhynie      Sunday 7th June 2009

IT was ‘Alrightie at Rhynie’ last weekend as the SACU (Scottish Auto Cycle Union) ran the fourth round of this season’s Safe Access-backed Scottish Motocross Championships at the fabulous Aberdeenshire circuit and former GP rider and Scottish champion Stuart Flockhart ran out the overall victor to consolidate his championship lead.

Stuart didn’t have it all his own way, however, as his championship nemesis and local favourite Tony Craig ran him close in the three races including taking the opening race’ win which undoubtedly helped him to the overall runner-up spot.
Third place went to Glasgow laddie and ‘lil Bunga’ Ross Rutherford.
Special mention must go to CAS Honda GP rider and current British MX Champ Billy MacKenzie’s younger brother Stevie as he comes on to some great form, leading the final championship race for a couple of laps showing it’s in the family before his Longniddry neighbour Flockhart took over at the front.
It was a cracking day’s racing helped by the Monster Energy drinks dished out to one and all, and if Flockhart can stay healthy at his age, he may reclaim the Scottish title that he last held in 2007 before his brother Neil grabbed it from him last season.

In between the glamour ties of the Championship races, the B class raced and raced with Lee Robson coming out in top spot with two race wins after a first leg second spot to eventual day runner-up Brian Fraser as big Ian Wilson showed maturity and style in third spot overall.
The C class also gave a grand display in their three races with maximum man Grant Fraser topping the class ahead of Michael Scott and Phil Goffin in runner-up and third places respectively.
As usual, the Youth classes got in on the act and provided many surprises and eye-popping moments on the demanding circuit.

In the MXY2 class Harry Cooper saw to it that he could relax in the last race of three after winning his two previous encounters over overall runner-up and last race winner Thomas Robertson.
Ross Shaw sure was consistent with three third places to his name and therefore third place overall come the end of the day.

Marcus Deans had a slight slip in the first Big-wheel 85cc class encounter, but made amends by claiming the subsequent two race wins for the overall class honours over runner-up and first race winner Blane McNally.
Willie Lambie battled hard to eventually claim the last spot on the podium in third place.
Another man on maximum points was the darling of the Small-wheel 85cc class – Ashley Darling with three supreme race wins.
Reece Wilson tried hard, but couldn’t match Darling’s speed and had to be content with the runner-up spot.
Jack Taylor also had a hard day at the office and had to be happy with three third places for his eventual third spot overall.

And finally, in the Junior 65cc class Finlay Reston blasted the rest out of the park to snatch three hard fought for race wins to take the overall top spot ahead of Reece Robertson and Brett Baillie in runner-up and third places respectively.
