Round 2.  Elgin      Sunday 19th April 2009

A well prepared track and a lovely sunny day welcomed the riders to Grampian Motocycle Clubs Woodside track near Elgin for round two of the Safe Access twma Scottish Motocross championship.

Race one was lead from the gate by Stuart Flockhart but a collision in the first corner led to a tumble that meant the Monster Energy hole shot prize was Barry Grey’s. The championship leader Shane Carless was also involved in the first corner incident in which the radiator hose was pulled off on his Moto One KTM, resulting to a dnf.
Ross Rutherford soon took the lead from Barry Grey (who eventually finished in eighteenth position) with Jamie Duncan in second position followed by Tony Craig and Gavin Robertson, as the race progressed Jamie Duncan tired and dropped down the order to seventh. Gavin Robertson and Tony Craig crashed helping Stuart Flockhart make up for the bad start and close to within fourteen seconds at the line of the leader Ross Rutherford. Sean MacDonald came home in a very respectable third place. Craig Trew after starting almost last made his way through the field to eighth place salvaging some valuable points.

Stuart Flockhart

Race Two saw Ross Rutherford take the Monster energy money, but he was unable to hold on to the lead, Tony Craig lead chased by Shane Carless and Gavin Robertson. Stuart Flockhart on the twma sponsored Kawasaki again had problems and had to visit the pits for repairs, when he rejoined the race he was about to be lapped by the leader but as a previous Scottish champion he knows how to win championships and after a determined ride he came home in seventh place. Shane Carless had more bad luck when a stone became jammed in the rear sprocket breaking several teeth off, he managed to nurse the bike home to finish fifth. Ross Rutherford who was now in second place lifted the pace in the closing stages and closed the gap on Tony Craig to just nine seconds at the line.

Race Three saw fast starting Barry Gray again take the Monster Energy money  but he did not fair so well in the race coming home in thirty fourth. Ross Rutherford was involved in another first corner crash but recovered to finish in fifth place. Shane Carless headed the field chased by Stuart Flockhart, Stuart at one point managed to take the lead but was unable to keep the flying Carless behind him and finished the race in second place.
Stuart Flockhart’s determined riding paid off and he now leads the Safe Access twma Championship from Ross Rutherford with Shane Carless in third.

Can the Flockhart brother s keep the championship for another year?

Round three will be take place at Duns in the Scottish borders on the 10th May, see you there.
