Round 3.  Duns   Sunday 10th May 2009

The third round of the 2009 Safe Access Ltd Scottish Adult Motocross Championships went ahead at the fabulous track at Langton Lees Farm, just outside Duns, in the Scottish Borders on Sunday.
The brilliantly prepared circuit will also host the penultimate round of this year’s British Maxxis MX champs on August 23, when the best of the best British riders make their way north of the border for some Scottish hospitality (no need to worry about the ‘deep fried Mars Bars’ it’s the east coast, they don’t do that sort of thing there!).
Battles royal raged in the Adult A class between eventual overall winner on the day Twisted 7 Honda’s Bryan MacKenzie and runner-up and former champ Stuart Flockhart in all three legs of the championship class races with the final leg the outstanding event of the day.
MacKenzie grabbed the two £50 Monster Energy holeshot prizes in the previous two legs and went onto take comfortable wins from Tony Craig in the first race and ‘Discoflock’ in the second.
However, Jamie Duncan threw in an ‘all or nothing’ blast up the start straight in the final encounter to snatch the £50 holeshot prize put up by the kind folk at the Monster Energy Drink company, even though his attempt saw him nearly end up in the far distant capital city of Edinburgh…!
Stuart Flockhart & Bryan MacKenzie
MacKenzie took over at the front but spun out shortly after leaving Flockhart to take the lead with Gavin Robertson a close third behind the recovered MacKenzie.
Flockhart battled hard for three laps to keep MacKenzie at bay and the close racing and pass attempts got the crowd cheering and excited.
The duel ended at the pair blasted over the big table top together and as they both tried to stare each other out 20 feet in the air MacKenzie landed just ahead but the former Scottish champ and British and Grand prix rider Flockhart pushed to the front again.
However as the last lap flag came out MacKenzie squeezed past and made the pass stick for an exciting climax to a sunny day’s racing.

After the dust had settled in the championship class Tony Craig completed the podium behind MacKenzie and Flockhart in third spot overall.

Spectators can see nigh on 100% of the circuit from certain parts of the track and they witnessed more classic racing in the B class when Brian Alexander went three for three for the overall honours ahead of lady pilot Kerry Wilson and third placed Stewart Treloer.
Over in the C class Callum Marshall also claimed three victories from three starts for his vouchers for Drysdale’s MCs with Simon Cockburn and John Moody finishing their battles overall runner-up and third placed respectively.
In the Youth class races Harry Cooper bettered his first race second spot with two subsequent 125cc class wins over runner-up and first race winner Jamie Blair and third placed overall Dale Stuart.
In the Big-wheel 85cc classes the undoubted star north of the border is Mattie Fleming with three untroubled wins from runner-up Cameron Pendreich and Stuart Robertson in third.
The next up and coming star in Scotland looks like Jack Taylor in the Small-wheel 855cc class (sorry Jack, that’ll be the Milne jinx on you young man – Graham).
Three wins from three starts saw jack blitz his group ahead of runner-up Frankie McDonald and Ben Thomson in third
place overall.
